"Exalting Christ, Equipping Christians"Stallings Memorial Baptist ChurchText Box: Volume 40

The VOICE of the People's ChurchText Box: I hope that all of you had a happy and safe 4th of July celebration. It was certainly nice to see a good crowd in Worship on Sunday. I did not know how many might be out of town or involved in other activities. I enjoyed a quiet afternoon and evening. My main activity of the day was to prepare and cook the hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill while Trish prepared baked beans, potato salad, and homemade peach ice cream. I did not go to bed hungry. I am telling you this for a reason.
While most of us here at Stallings will go to bed without being hungry each night, there are many in our community and city who are not as fortunate as we are. And we have had several of these folks come and receive food from our church’s food closet. As a result, the shelves are almost empty and we need each of you to help us out by bringing food that will help someone who is less fortunate than we are. I want to ask you to bring certain items each week for the next several weeks until the shelves are full again. You will find this schedule listed below. In advance, thank you for your help.
I also want to take this time to remind you that I will be taking one of my weeks of vacation beginning on Thursday. We will be traveling to Jackson and Memphis, Tennessee to visit with some of my family. While there, I will also be conducting the wedding ceremony of one of my nephews. Someone asked how many nieces and nephews I have. I have eight on my side of the family, and six of them (including the one

this week) will have been married since I came here two years ago.  So you can see that much of my vacation time since coming to be your pastor has been spent at family marriages.  For your information, Trish and I will be taking another week of vacation August 6-14.  After her mother being here for a month and my mom visiting for two weeks when we come back from Memphis, we are going to take a week for us to rest before Trish starts back to school.

Finally, as I begin my third year as your pastor, I pray that each one of us will strive to follow God’s leadership for our individual lives and for the corporate life of our church.  The last two years has had its ups and downs, but I pray that we will keep our eyes upon Jesus, the author and completer of our faith.  See you when I get back on July 18th.
