"Exalting Christ, Equipping Christians"Stallings Memorial Baptist ChurchText Box: Volume 40

The VOICE of the People's ChurchText Box: At one point during Jesus’ time here on earth, He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” After receiving their responses, He then asked, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter confessed Him as the Christ, the Son of the living God. Have you ever thought about that question, and how you would answer it? I think it is the most important question that we can answer. When the Pastor Search Committee began talking with me about serving as the Pastor of Stallings, I gave them a large amount of information about where I stood on various doctrines, beliefs, and other aspects of faith. If I am not mistaken, at least part of this was passed on to each of you so that you could become more familiar with me and my beliefs. I had taken a great deal of time to think about and put on paper what I believe and why I believe it. In a sense, all of my thoughts and ideas that I had written down were my confession of faith. I was trying to convey in words “who I say that Jesus Christ is.”
    Are you prepared to answer someone if they ask you who Jesus is? Can you answer what He means to you and why? Can people see something different in your life by the way that you live? For you know as well as I do that people are watching us, looking to see if they would like to have what we have (our relationship with God through faith). They are watching to see if our actions match our words. I believe the cross-stitch that I have framed on my office wall conveys what many people in the world are thinking, if not saying to me and to you. It is

entitled “A Sermon that Really Speaks.”  It was done for me back in 1987 by a lady suffering with Lou Gehrig’s disease so it is very special to me.

I’d rather see a sermon

  Than hear one any day;

I’d rather one should walk with me

  Than merely tell the way.

The eye’s a better pupil

  And more willing than the ear.

Fine counsel is confusing,

  But examples are always clear.

And the best of all the preachers

  Are the men who live their creeds.

For to see good put into action

  Is what everybody needs.

    Remember people are watching each of us, not just preachers to see our faith.  On Sunday morning, I will be preaching on “Confessions of Faith.”  We will look at the example of Jesus’ life that showed His faith, and the Israelites confession of what God had and was doing for them.  I hope to see you then if not before.  Have a great week!

 Thank you for responding so well and doubling up on your offerings last week.  You really came through and it is appreciated.
