Text Box: RON’S NOTES

Last week I began a series of notes on the music program in our church. This week I want to talk about traditional worship.

Tradition is something that we grow up learning about from our elders and follow by telling and teaching our children. That is a good thing. We have sung many of our hymns for generations and they will never get too old to sing. They are wonderful and give testimony to God's greatness in all areas of our lives. They are important and in my opinion should never be done away with. I do feel that we can have both Psalms of praise and traditional hymns.

I have heard about the confusion of moving from the bulletin to the hymnal, but until we decide as a church, if we change anything in the music worship we will continue with the bulletin and have the words of the choruses along with the hymn numbers beside them. I have had both pro and con voices on the idea of projecting the words on a screen instead of switching from bulletin to hymnal. Thank you for your continued sharing. A word of instruction about getting from the bulletin to the hymnal. Place the bulletin in the hymnal at the appropriate hymn number for smoother transition.

P.S. The music committee has suggested in the next few months trying different worship outlines. We will explore these in the near future.
